How to Apply Online for Unemployment in Pennsylvania

If you have worked your regular hours, then file for Unemployment Benefits on Sunday. If you have not worked your regular hours for the week, then file immediately.

To file an initial unemployment claim online, please click the link below: https://www.paclaims.pa.gov/UCEN/Welcome.asp. This link will direct you to Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry website.

You will be prompted to select whether you want to continue in English or in Spanish.

Next, you will be asked to type your Social Security Number in two boxes, then click continue.

The next page will ask you to select Initial Claim or Reopen Claim. Select Initial Claim. After selecting Initial Claim, you will be prompted to answer questions about yourself, your previous employer, how you came to be unemployed, as well as questions to help determine your eligibility.

After all of the questions have been answered you will receive an Applicant Certification where you will verify that you have entered complete and accurate information relating to your claim. On this page you will also be able to submit your claim by clicking on the Submit button.

After submitting your application, you will be given a confirmation page informing you that your claim has been successfully submitted. Please print or save this page for your records.

Following the confirmation page, you will be prompted to enter information for unemployment benefits to be direct deposited into your bank account. This is not a mandatory step in the process.

After this step, you will be taken to a page informing you of the active search for work requirements. In most cases, to be eligible for benefits you must be actively looking for a job. You will be directed to the CareerLink website where you can register for an online account which will give you access to online job postings.

You will receive a Claim Confirmation letter in the mail, which you will use to file your biweekly claim for your benefits. Next, you will receive a Notice of Financial Determination in the mail, explaining to you your eligibility for benefits based on how much you have worked and how much you were paid.
